A Brief History of Fred J. Berg...
From 1989 to 2006, Fred Berg served in various legal and administrative capacities at Weill Medical College and Graduate School of Medical Sciences of Cornell University in New York City. As associate university counsel from 1997 to 2004, his in-house practice focused on biomedical and clinical research transactional, legal, ethical and compliance issues, as well as general corporate matters.
In January 2005, he became legal policy adviser to the research and sponsored programs division of the medical college where he served as adviser to the associate dean for research administration and deputy to the associate dean for research compliance, which included ethical review of human and animal experimentation, conflicts of interest management, patient privacy and technology transfer. In 2007, Mr. Berg served briefly as director of research&development of the NYC Health and Hospitals Corporation Office of Clinical and Health Services Research where he initiated implementation of various research compliance programs affecting the 11-hospital municipal system. Mr. Berg graduated in 1977 from Brandeis University with a B.A. cum laude in Russian Studies and Economics, and earned his J.D. in 1980 from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. He is a licensed attorney in New York and Pennsylvania, and was admitted to the U.S. Supreme Court in June 2000. Mr. Berg has been an invited lecturer and presenter on various topics affecting biomedical research transactions and compliance to academic medical centers and teaching hospitals including Brown University / Rhode Island Hospital (Lifespan) and professional and management associations such as the National Association of College and University Attorneys and the National Association of College and University Research Administrators.
